A Recipe for Finding Balance
I’ve been thinking a lot about balance. What does it look like on the daily? How do I feel when I am balanced? What do I have to say “no” to in order to stay in balance?
I find it helpful to consider the state of balance as a recipe for a delicious pot of soup. (Is anyone surprised that I would use a food metaphor?) To make a good-tasting soup, you start with a base, add nutritionally dense food, and then season with herbs and spices. As the soup simmers – slowly cooking the food, an alchemical process happens. Individual ingredients change form. Flavor profiles shift. A bland potato transforms into something richer, more exotic.
Or not. If the soup is not well-attended…

Show your Heart: A craftivism activity
Craftivism combines activism with crafting to create a mindful, peaceful protest experience. Craftivism invites people to listen to their feelings and express them in such a way that is thoughtful and value-aligned. These types of activities are ideal for people who want to be a positive change but may not feel comfortable with or want to be limited to extraverted activities.
This winter the focus of our craftivism activities is to invite folks to serve as allies for our immigrant neighbors, specifically by securing access for ALL children, regardless of their place of birth, to attend public school. Our hope is that by attending Show your Heart you are motivated to join with other allies in asking your local school board not to discriminate against immigrant families.
Interested in hosting a Show your Heart craftivism activity?
Show your Heart will include:
- A calm environment to support frazzled nervous systems
- A guided meditation with time for journaling
- A craft experience adapted for different skill levels. (All materials provided.)
- Light refreshments
If you would like to host or experience a craftivism activity and/or learn more about how to show up as an ally for immigrant children, then please contact Kim. The Shakti Team is prepared to host you or to show up at your organization to guide a craftivism activity.

Little Free Pantry
We want to help bridge the gap for people who are experiencing food insecurity by increasing the amount of food put into the Little Free Pantry. If you would like to support this effort, then you may purchase non-perishable food to place in the pantry or you may make a donation so that our Shakti Shopper can purchase food.
The LFP is one example of reciprocity: a system where resources are shared without paid transactions or debts incurred. At the core of reciprocity is the belief that when you share what you have, then you have what you need. Today you are able to give food. On another day, you may find that you are the person in need of food. Neither position is better than the other, rather the shift between giver and receiver reflects the natural ebb and flow of resources.
Trusting resources to flow where they are needed most is an indication of a healthy ecosystem. Just like a grove of Aspen trees is able to move water through their collective root system to support the trees who need it the most, humans also are capable of moving resources.
Building Community, Changing Lives
Shakti in the Mountains is a community for women (and the men who support them) to cultivate, nurture and celebrate the feminine.
The feminine is the creative energy present in all humans. It is the power that transforms consciousness itself. The feminine is the fuel we use to generate new ideas as well as the energy we use to take care of what we love. Without the feminine, our world would be lifeless and unsustainable.
We are dedicated to elevating the feminine: to providing opportunities for folks to recognize this innate power and to use it to create health, vitality and joy.
The Shakti Stewardship Program
with Kim Bushore-Maki
For those who are committed to leading from a place of congruence, wholeness, and flexibility while staying present to what lives in their heart. This program explores energy, archetypes, consciousness, and spirit and is based on the premise that to live your soul’s purpose is the highest form of service you can offer the world.
I encourage you to check out the program and notice if the description resonates with you. If yes, then join me this spring as I guide people toward identifying their higher purpose so that they may serve the world from a place of joy and bliss.
